The Funny Farm

Ray Pennetti / Joe Currie - 9 p.m.

320 Steele Ave Ext
Gloversville N.Y. (518) 725-2200
Price: $12.00

Ray Penetti is the headliner, Joe Currie will feature, and Jon will emcee.

Here we had a medium-sized audience, so there was still room for additional patrons had you been there, and it was just an awesome show, both in my opinion and the praise from the audience as they left.

Start with Feature act Joe Currie. Now I'd seen both Joe and Ray last year at the FF, but it was on the porch during mosquito and blackfly season, so that was hardly a fair assessment. They were good then, but tonight when I could really pay attention, I was able to truly enjoy the show. Joe's act-outs, voice modulation, and material combine to make a thoroughly enjoyable 30 minutes of essentially non-stop entertainment. The audience was with him from start to finish, even (especially) birthday girl Jan (which she herself pronounced Jeeeeeannnn). I would think Joe will be headlining very soon as he clearly has 30 very strong minutes right now, so the Funny Farm offered the opportunity, as it so often does, of seeing a comic-on-the-rise before you have to go to Proctor's and shell out big bucks for a nosebleed seat.

Headliner Ray Pennetti tells straightforward, thought-provoking humor in a low-key fashion. Almost Seinfeld-esque, although he may hate the comparison. I was especially impressed by his total command of the stage. The material was sharp and the presentation near-flawless, both indicators of many years on the road and in the full range of clubs honing his craft. This wasn't just funny material, it was funny material delivered well. Somewhat like a good story related by a top-notch writer. A joy to watch.

The Funny Farm

Andrew Schultz - 9 p.m.

320 Steele Ave Ext
Gloversville N.Y. (518) 725 - 2200
Price: $12.00

Andrew Schultz is the headliner and the feature is Calise Hawkins. Jon will emcee.

FIRST of all let me say that Patty served me coffee in a huge BEER GLASS and REFILLED it THREE TIMES. So I'm WIRED and I'm writing this at MIDNIGHT and will probably STAY UP for several DAYS!!!

Now then show: smaller audience than The Funny Farm has had lately. Frankly a shame - those in attendance all really seemed to enjoy the show. Guest Act was Michael Blaustein, Feature was Calise Hawkins, Headliner was Andrew Schultz. Andrew had been at The Funny Farm before and had a great set. Tonight was no different. In fact, all three performers really connected with the crowd, which was not easy, as their modest number made it more important to work to people directly. Thankfully, crazy Mary up front was there to carry the ball once she opened up. Initially, she wasn't sure she wanted to participate, but that theory changed completely as the night went on.

Let me also say that Patty served me coffee in a huge BEER GLASS and REFILLED it THREE TIMES. So I'm WIRED and I'm writing this at MIDNIGHT and will probably STAY UP for several DAYS!!!

Good show - I'M SO WIRED RIGHT NOW!!!!!

P.S. - I had the BBQ rib special, which was a new offering for them, and was excellent. P.S.S - Patty served me coffee in a huge BEER GLASS and REFILLED it THREE TIMES. So I'm WIRED and I'm writing this at MIDNIGHT and will probably STAY UP for several DAYS!!!

WIRED I TELLS YA!!!!!

Price: $45.00 for dinner and the show

Jon will emcee and Marcy will do a guest spot. The headliner will be Chris Bolter, a comedic hypnotist. Come join the fun as well as welcome in 2009.

Chris Bolter got snowed in in Boston so Rod Reyes filled in as the headliner. He was fantastic - if you ever get a chance to see this guy in action, run to see him. Derric Harrington, an act which I always enjoy, did a feature spot. It was a great show and the sold-out crowd really seemed to have a great evening.

Price: $12.00

Headliner was supposed to be Ronnie Wilkerson and the feature Ed Pudup. Well, it turned out the headliner was Johnny Watson and the feature was Eric DaSilva. We had two guest acts, Brian Chicokkey ((sp?) and Jon. It was a great audience, especially the very drunk man at the big table... who probably won't remember how much he enjoyed the show. How can you beat the $20 steak dinner and show special? Uh, sorry Jokin' Jonny MooCow......

Comedy Show at Temple Beth El

You Don't Have To Be Jewish - (Sorry, Mom!) - 8 p.m.

3 Marion Ave.
Glens Falls N.Y. 792 - 4364 for info or reservati
Price: $20.00

A show of five stand-up comics, including Jon, with Marcy as the emcee. There will be alcohol and cake served - how can you miss this? This is a fundraiser for the Temple so come laugh, eat, and get drunk with us. But bring a designated driver......

The BEST setup - lights, stage, sound - I've ever worked with. EVER. Technical Crew-Of-One Jeff Levy provided all we could dream of, between the spot lighting, accent lighting, BACK lighting, sound mixing, stage, etc. It looked like a professional show from start to finish. They made JON look good - now THAT'S good effect-stuff.

The lighting was generously donated, and really dressed up the Temple's showroom, which is known as 'CAFE BETH-EL'.

The show itself was excellent - I think to some extent the performers were inspired to be professional comics by the professional surroundings. I felt like I was performing on Stage 'A' in Las Vegas. Both sets went very well, with occasional call-outs from the audience that were not heckling as such, but attempts to answer rhetorical questions. Sort of like dinner at my in-law's. Let's say you called out
"Who here likes chicken"? One lady "excelled" in answering "I like chicken, broiled, with a green vegetable. But not broccoli. Although that broccolini's OK. And not fried chicken - too greasy". So as a performer you answer "Uh, OK. Anyhoo...".

Refreshments were top-notch too. OUTSTANDING cheescake donated by Northwoods Cheescake Co., wines, juices, cakes.... what a spread. Wine generously served by the Rabbi, who appeared to be in High School. I guess we're old - EVERYONE looks young to me. Except The Rolling Stones. Come on....

The Funny Farm - ANGRY BOB!

ANGRY BOB! - 9 p.m.

320 Steele Ave Ext
Gloversville N.Y.
Price: $12.00

Angry Bob, seen on Last Comic Standing, is the headliner. Joe Pontillo is the feature. Jon will emcee, Marcy will guest.

I've been waiting a YEAR to see Angry Bob in Gloversville, and though I've spotted him elsewhere along the way (like walking up to the Gotham in NYC for Last Comic Standing - a super-sized comic in a black knit cap can't really go incognito), it wasn't the same as having him in Gloversville, which would be God's country if God lived in one of those "Save The Children" places where everyone's covered in flies and Sally Struthers tries to get you to donate those Jeno's Pizza Rolls you're munching on (not to the charity - to her).

ANYHOO - Angry Bob came and performed, along with a young and high-spirited comic named JOE PONTILLO (that's Pon-TILLO, as in Italian, not Pon-TEE-Yo, as in Spanish).

For the second week in a row, The Funny Farm in Gloversville had a FULL HOUSE. Not a seat to be found once the show started. The comics, who often can sit in the main room at a free table, had to wait out in the main dining room. I think Matty Goldberg (11/1) and Angry Bob (11/8) draw more people up here than anyone realizes. Otherwise it's the steak special ($20 for dinner AND show? I think that buys you a hot dog, a newspaper, and a pay toilet in most places).

Both of these comics did great judging from the audience response. Forced to sit outside the door, I didn't get to watch the performers. Joe Pontillo did a lot of act-out to accentuate his jokes, and I didn't get to see those much. The bits were funny even just listening, so I'm sure they were even better in person. I guess I'd rather have the full house and suffer a little. Being emcee, I can't go stand outside the back window and watch. That would suck when the act ended and I was still fighting my way back through the crowd. With ANGRY BOB there is a certain "something" to seeing and hearing him deliver the jokes, so I lost a little getting the audio only, but still enjoyed his set immensely (I think he'd approve of that word: "immensely"). See him when you get the chance. Also, if he still has them, buy a "TALKING ANGRY BOB-BLEHEAD". It's a bobblehead figure that looks like Angry Bob (knit cap and all) and says 8 or so phrases. I have mine on my desk at the Nuclear Power Lab, and it inspires a lot of questions (e.g., "Who the hell is THAT? Why does he have a bucket of chicken? Don't we pay you enough here? Since when are YOU funny?" Etc.). Joe Pontillo is worth catching as well - he may be a Headliner soon somewhere, so catch him while you can.

Marcy did a Guest spot which was tremendously well-received. I think the women in the audience really like laughing at the subject of most of her jokes, which appears to be me. As emcee, I have to go back onstage after being trashed for 6 or 7 minutes. Kinda sucks, really.....

I forgot to mention that it was Marjorie's 72nd birthday celebration (day after her actual birthday, I think). HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The Funny Farm - Matty Goldberg

9 p.m.

320 Steele Ave Ext
Gloversville N.Y.
Price: $12.00

Headliner is Matty Goldberg. Feature is Andrew Schultz. Jon will emcee.

First of all, this show was PACKED. FULL. People had to be turned away. That's never happened before.

Second of all, the audience was great. They laughed. They followed jokes. They applauded frequently. I've had good small audiences, but this one was good and huge.

As for the performers, certainly I was happy with my set, and I received compliments from audience members afterwards. Still, after watching the Feature (Andrew Schultz) and the Headliner (Matty Goldberg), I could see that I have things to work on to reach the next level.

Feature Act Andrew Schultz did an outstanding set, enjoyed by the audience and by me. It was 25 solid minutes - there was no let-up. He ended with what I felt was his strongest material, an extended bit about a Greek Diner. He did voices, act-outs, facial expressions....; things that really brought the joke to life. A KEY for me was that Andrew was referring to the smaller Greek diners so prevalent in NYC (where he's from). I'd bet that few IF ANY patrons tonight had ever been in a diner like the one he described. HOWEVER, it didn't matter, as he successfully "brought them into his reality". They 100% enjoyed the story and understood it because he conveyed the diner well, even if the audience hadn't actually been to one. This is harder than it looks, and one thing that separates amateurs from pros. Between laughing fits, I noted to myself to "work on that".

Headline act Matty Goldberg was back doing what he does best: being Matty Goldberg. Matty has that rare ability to be such a character that even "straight" lines are greeted with laughter, and jokes even more so. Really enjoyed his act, as did another person I spoke with after the show who had seen him last time he was at The Funny Farm. In the Main Room on the way out after the show, many people stopped to tell him how much they enjoyed the show.

Probably the best show overall I've ever been a part of.

Happy Birthday (10/10-11/6) to all those who were celebrating.

A big thanks to Holly, Holly's sister, and all the fun ladies at Holly's table!

Jon & Marcy at The Funny Farm

9 p.m.

320 Steele Ave Ext
Gloversville NY 518-725-2200
Price: $12.00

Jon will emcee and Marcy will guest. This is opening night to kick off the fall season so come laugh with us and headliner Aaron Ward.

Big crowd to kick off the new season. There were two birthday girls in the audience having a blast, although I don't think either one will remember being there. And to Frank from Florida, we will always remember you. Thank goodness you let someone else drive the Mattel BIG WHEEL on the way home....

It turned out to be a good show, although the crowd was (as always) a little "odd", in that some people shouted out comments when it probably was not helpful, or... always. Even though it will hurt their sales, maybe the Farm needs to institute a 10-drink maximum. I'm surprised they haven't been the targets of some kind of DWI litigation yet, but my guess is that most of the patrons who get stopped can't remember where they've been that night (or month).

'Frank From Florida' was there (I can think of another F-word to start that phrase, but I'll be nice). His kids wore head-kerchiefs (do-rags), and he wore a baseball cap; I'm not sure at what age the transition occurs, but obviously somewhere along the line.

In the BEGINNING..... there was light, although at the FF this means a Dollar Store spotlight focused on your crotch. But in the beginning, when Frank still had ingested less than 8 drinks, he signalled his approval to a joke with a "Thumbs Up" sign. Later, as he passsed the "12 drink" milepost, he signalled his approval by spilling everything in front of him, including his wife, who we helped up. On the way home, he signalled his approval by throwing up in the backseat. Boy Howdy....

The Conan O'Brien Show

Late Nite with Conan O'Brien - 12:00 PM

NYC
Price: n/a - it's on TV!

Jon & Marcy - funniest people in the audience

These tix were part of the prize package for JOKIN' JONNY MOOCOW winning the Make Your Own Commercial contest for Huck Finn's Warehouse. The prize also included round-trip fares on scenic AMTRAK; since they did not have a "CATTLE CAR", and refused to qualify JJM as "handicapped", the bovine jokester generously donated his tickets to Jon and Marcy (JJM's quote: "They call themselves a TRAIN?! They don't even have a COW CATCHER! It's total B.S. - and I mean that literally as well as figuratively").

So anyway, the guests were Brooke Shields, former Clinton financial hack Robert Reich (Jews just hate that name - why doesn't he just change it to Robert Gaschamber and be done with it?), and musical guest Amos Lee.

Highlight: we got to see Brooke Shields use the "F-word" on camera! It probably got bleeped for home viewers, or else the FCC will shut down NBC. She was using a foreign accent when she did it, so maybe she really meant to say "FROCK". Doubt it, though. She seemed pretty certain.

TV in the studio's not like it looks at home. They're masters of quasi-deception.... They make it look very good though - sort of like being in the kitchen at a fancy restaurant and seeing what really goes into that $45 chateaubriand.....

So we enjoyed it - a valuable experience, overall. One caveat - they really don't treat you very well as audience members, and we were actually VIP guests, treated marginally better than the rest. Don't go expecting to be treated like they want you there, or expecting a bathroom either. By the time the musical guest comes on at the end, all you can think about is peeing, no offense to Amos Lee. In one skit, Conan had a urinal on-stage, and I was REALLY thinking about...... Anyway, if you're going, no coffee for 2 days beforehand.

I've never seen an Improv. troupe get heckled. They handled it very well, though. Maybe the bar needs to cut people off after 12 drinks....

Most laughs ever per square foot. Like most art galleries, AMBROSE SABLE is "intimate", unlike Civil War general Ambrose Burnside, who was huge. The IMPROV CLUB pulled it off well, except for the one muffed set change where Jon accidentally stepped on a fellow troupe member's foot. She was released after only two days in ICU!

Broadway Joe's

Rensselaer Firefighter's Benefit - 9 p.m.

51 South Pearl Street
Albany N.Y. (518) 432 - 5637
Price: $12.00 ??? Call venue for detail

This show is a benefit for the Fink family of Renssalaer County, who just lost everything in the recent flooding in our area. Bob Fink, a firefighter, was out helping others combat the flooding to their properties when it happened to his family. This kind of selfless bravery is so rare today, and the family really deserves our support. Please come out to support such a good cause. Jon promises to be funny.

GREAT SHOW!

The only hitch was that "a few" (i.e., ALL) members of the Renssalaer Fire Dept. were at a TOPLESS Bachelor Party that night. In case you weren't sure, the verdict is in: FIREMEN PREFER TITTIES TO JOKES.

Jon too, but no one invited him to the Bachelor Party.

Great sets by Marcy and Jon. We won over the crowd!

Jon would still have preferred the topless girls though.

The Funny Farm

Nick Marra - Headliner - 9 p.m.

320 Steele Ave Ext
Gloversville NY 518-725-2200
Price: $12.00

Marcy and Jon are doing guest spots. Feature is John Briggs. Headliner is Nick Marra - this guy is funny. Take the opportunity to come out and see a great show.

OK, I'm getting back to writing about the shows - I've been preoccupied with "stuff", and have let the reviews slip. Plus, I paid all this money and did all this work to get Marcy Wireless access, so SHE claims SHE'LL now help me with the reviews. "OK, dear, it's been like a MONTH, and you've written approximately..... ZERO reviews ???!!?! Hmmmmm......."

Anyhoo..., last night's show was one of those rare occasions when everyone seemed to just be "ON" from start to finish. Emcee Christine Croft got it rolling, then Marcy & Jon as "GUEST" comics, followed by a Feature set from John Briggs, and Headline act Nick Marra. There were no "quiet spots", no let-ups or let-downs, just pretty much 2 solid hours of good comedy, to the point where I began to wonder if the audience would start to get tired. I think it ran "the perfect length", in that sense. "Leave them wanting a little more", even.

Marcy and I had pestered Funny farm booker Sylvia Snow for Guest Acts slots for this show since back in June, as we'd seen Nick Marra before (see early 2008), liked his sharp, high-energy act, and wanted to see it again. Well worth it.

The Funny Farm remains a comedy gem hidden away in bustling Gloversville (actually, it's even on the OUTSKIRTS of bustling Gloversville. We'd call it "Suburbs", but who are WE kidding....). A bargain - check it out!

IMPROV. Show at The Cambridge Hotel

The Improv Club at Cambridge - 7 p.m.

4 West Main Street
Cambridge N.Y. 518-677-5626
Price: $50 -YES!!!! People actually p

Dinner and Improv Show featuring the talents of Jon and Marcuy Hausman

This show was "killer". Went really well. The performance was not disturbed by ghosts (much).

Among Jon's notable roles, suggested by the audience, were "3-YEAR OLD AT AN ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS MEETING", "ANNOYING PLUMBER", and "RELIGIOUS CULT LEADER". Marcy also had several notable roles, including a crime-secene Detective who apprently had a fixation with Britney Spears and Mt. Everest.

I am always amazed when anyone pays money to see us perform, as we are almost always "on" anyway, and you just need to sit near us and listen. However, many people really did pay $50 to have a nice dinner and watch The Improv Club perform their assorted skits according to the audience's bizarre whims.

Valatie Community Theater - NFL SHOW!!!!

NFL Alumni Benefit Show - 8:00 - 10:00

3031 Main Street
Valatie NY 12184
(518) 758-1309
Price: 20.00

Last year's, in Albany, was SUPER! and included a raffle for SUPER BOWL TICKETS and former Colts star receiver Tim Sherwin

That was the first - and last - time I will perform at a venue that only has a artist drawing of what the indoor bathroom WILL look like! - MLH

JON WRITES: OK, ignoring Marcy for like the 250th time, just let me add that she and I had really good sets. It was also unusual in that it marked one of the few times that a major segment of the audience had come specifically to see US.

Jon and Marcy both had great sets, Marcy as Emcee, Jon as a Feature-length performer.

The stuff she said about the bathroom is pretty accurate, unfortunately. They DID have a "bathroom" - it was a Porta-Pot just outside the building ("a short stroll to the Sanitary Facilities"), and was a lovely shade of robin's egg blue. The door even latched shut, although Jon preferred to leave it open and wave at the passers-by (which, being Valatie, there were none).

Let's just say, as charitably as possible, that the 'Valatie Community Theater' (or whatever) ISN'T QUITE READY TO ROLL YET. Give it another year to either be re-habbed or finish falling down completely. It's a former movie theater, with the same wooden movie seats that were with the building since the first Edison Kinetoscope Moving Pictures shown there in 1907. ("Hey - the Ferrotypes! They're.... they're moving!.)

The opening announcement, and I'm not making this up, was "PLEASE DON'T ROCK IN YOUR SEATS - THEY'RE NOT SCREWED DOWN ANYMORE"

This stand-up comedy business ROCKS!
Did I mention that even though there was no indoor plumbing (or outdoor plumbing really - just a hole in a blue plastic shed), they were SELLING BEER, WINE AND SODA????!!!!!! YES - THAT'S RIGHT - SELLING BEER, WINE, AND SODA WITH NO BATHROOM. WTF??!! I mean, seriously, WTF???!!!

Muddy's

Comedy Boob-A-Thon; OK I made that up.. - 8:00 I think

40 Lincoln Ave.
Watervliet NY 12189
(518)-273-9892
Price: 15.00, I think

Muddy's is in Watervliet, and is a topless bar which I'm assured will NOT be topless for this performance, which is good because I'm even LESS attractive with my clothes off according to my wife.

OK, Muddy's IS a topless bar. The waitstaff DOES wear pasties though, as there is some arcane NY State law involving bare nippples and alcoholic beverages. I think Ted Kennedy might have had something to do with this.

This was a great show, and I'm not just saying that because I appreciated the mammaries. The crowd was great, the comics were "on", and even "Nora" came up from NYC to do her act (but she did not show us her "goods"). She did jokes, you pervo's... Jon on the other hand, DID show everyone HIS goods, which were hairy and unimpressive. He started off his routine with a gyrating hula-ish dance in which he lifted up his shirt to reveal oversized tassels on his man-boob nipples.

ICK....

MARY DIMINO comes to The Funny Farm

MARY DIMINO - The Funny Farm - 9:00

Steele Ave. Extension
Gloversville NY 518-725-2200
Price: 12.00; friends of Jon: 11.85

A real coup. One of the country's premier comedians, and perhaps the funniest lady around today, MARY DIMINO, has agreed to appear at The Funny Farm in Gloversville. She's based out of New York City, but she agreed to do THIS show as a favor! SEE IT! It may be your only chance to catch her aside from TV or movies! Jon and Marcy will also appear: Jon's lobbying for the Feature spot (who knows?).

Tremendous show. If you missed it, be sure to catch the next one with Mary; (call or write The Funny Farm for dates and details).

As the movie says "There's Something About Mary....". It's just the best crowd interaction one could imagine. I can't describe it - can't even guess at HOW she does it.... but it's outstanding, funny, and a pleasure to experience. Much more than a Comedy Show. A great way to spend the evening. Period.

You can see Mary's Website proudly displayed in our LINKS section. Take a look!

The Feature Comic was this area's own Dee Watson, with Marcy Hausman as the evening's GUEST comic, for a three-female line-up that was NOT one of those "Women-only" nights of comedy. All three performers really present their material across all Gender lines, and are worth seeing regardless of your particular genital arrangement.

Mary's threat to a young, attractive man in the crowd that "someday he will be a balding, unattractive, poorly-dressed idiot like Jon Hausman over there" clearly goes against genetics - he'll never get that bad, barring a horrible disfiguring accident involving a high-speed car wreck or battery acid.

Graduation Show at Tess's Lark Tavern

Lark Tavern / Knowledge Network Graduation Show - 7:30

453 Madison Ave. (Lark & Madison Aves.)
Albany NY 518-463-9779
Price: 5.00

This is a Graduation show for the Stand-Up Comedy course offered through The Knowledge Network and led by Greg Aidala, Instructor. This showcase will be the graduation show and will give the 15-16 graduates each about 4 minutes of stage time. SO - Jon and Marcy (both are course participants) will do 4-minute sets each, with Mr. Aidala, a professional comic, doing about 10-15 minutes at the outset. Some of these students are TRULY GOOD! Plus, it's a chance to see Greg Aidala for only $5. The Lark Tavern is a great venue as well - good food & drinks. Parking in back (limited) or on the side streets.

This was the official "Graduation" show from Greg Aidala's short course in doing Stand-Up Comedy for new comedians. Jon and Marcy took it, being older comedians who have not learned anything along the way.

The show was conducted at 'Tess's Lark Tavern' in Albany NY. It went very well for us - the back room was packed beyond the point where one could move, kind of like one of those South American discos that catches fire and 1200 people die.

We enjoyed it, the crowd enjoyed it, and Tess seemed to be approximately OK with it, so it's a win-win, I guess.

The Funny Farm - Jon will be the emcee!

Matty Goldberg - 9:00

Steele Ave. Extension
Gloversville 518-725-2200
Price: $12.00

A short-notice appearance for these two - let's see how much they screw it up with minimal preparation!

Well, HERE was one of those rare nights that will be remembered as a gem. Matty Goldberg was the Headline act, John Briggs was the Feature act, and Marcy Hausman was the Guest act. They ALL "KILLED" (that is, they did extremely well).

The night started out looking like it might be a disaster. We pulled into an fairly empty parking lot about 90 minutes before showtime. Inside were about six people, of which two were Matty Goldberg and his friend/driver. After about half an hour, one other person came in. However, it was Feature comic John Briggs, not an audience member. So of the nine people there, five were the comics and associated personnel. Also, one of the remaining four was an infant. Jon was hoping Alex (the baby) might get breast-fed, thus providing SOME interesting focal point.... BUT: the place began to fill up, and by showtime we had a respectable showing of some 30-40 people.

Even better, this was a "good laughing" crowd, especially those near the front. For example, the young blonde lady who kept on giving the "Rock On" hand signal. Although to Jon, it sure looked like the "Hook-'Em" horns used to cheer on the Univ. of Texas football team. "Whatever".

Chrissy destroyed the baby highchair (by accident), fortunately after the baby had left. Well, not really destroyed - she put it back together.

I'd encourage the reader to catch Matty Goldberg's act when you can. Memorable. You can also Google him or see Videos on YouTube.

Marcy was specifically named in a comment card as an act they want to see again. Jon is just along for the ride, as he is not much to look at.

Jon's emcee set went well, and the comics that followed kept the ball up in the air, so to speak. Top-shelf night!

Jon will EMCEE, Marcy will GUEST... depends on the results of some erotic issues you don't want to hear about. We decided a few minutes ago....

Headliner Nick Marra took this on short notice as the originally scheduled act had a personal loss which prevented him from appearing. Nick taking this on such short notice made me think he can't be that good. Big mistake. Best act ever. If I can be half that good someday.... Actually, if I can just burn off that many calories on stage I can quit the gym.

Generally, the shows are set up with a Headline act. a Feature act, and 0, 1, or at most 2 Guest spots (about 5 -7 minutes). At THIS show for some reason there were FOUR people who wanted to go on as Guests acts, so we tried it: two before the feature, two after.

Jon emceed. Marcy was the first Guest spot after the Feature act. She killed. the audience was not expecting such adult topics from such a nice-looking lady. Their mistake. Marcy also shone in putting a drunken female heckler in her place, using terminology that no MALE comic could ever have gotten away with. Even the audience applauded, and the other comics pumped their fists in triumph. Take THAT!

PACKED house, TWO headliners (Davin Rosenblatt and John Briggs - both excellent performers), an outstanding FEATURE comic (Dave Bancroft), Marcy Hausman as the very funny and somewhat risque GUEST COMIC, and a superb menu of great food, great desserts, drinks, a Champagne toast, noisemakers, Glo-Stix, leis, etc. etc. A party to start the year off right!

Much of the fun was unintentional, such as emcee JON HAUSMAN being given the job of conducting a New Year's toast at 8 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT. I tried to talk really SLOWLY, but we still wound up short. Better yet, we were going by the clock in Times Square, which was right on the TV, which unfortunately was NOT IN THE ROOM WHERE THE COMICS WERE PERFORMING. Jon proved once again that ESP and telepathy are among the many skills he lacks. Still, the audience was patient, even when, with seven minutes remaining until midnight, Jon tried to get everyone to 'COUNT BACKWARDS FROM 420'. Look - it was an IDEA - they can't ALL be gems.

If you've been missing the shows at The Funny Farm, you've got to start going. Best comedy value in the area, maybe in the whole state of NY!
